My Australian Dream - Sung by the character Melek from Hijabi Girl: A Musical Puppet Show I love Aussie Rules football I want to start an all girl team I hope I can make it happen That’s my Australian dream! I need to find a costume For next week’s Book Week theme I still want to wear my hijab That’s my Australian dream! I don’t want to dress as Red Riding Hood Don’t make me dress like that I’m sure there’s something just as good Nothing they can poke fun at. Hijabi Girl I like Aussie Rules Footy Hijabi Girl I won’t wear a red hoody Hijabi Girl I’ll write my own scene That’s my Australian dream! Wearing a hijab is my choice There’s life beneath this seam Everyone is welcome to play the game That’s my Australian dream There are no books about Hijabi Girls I’m going to have to swim upstream I’m going to have to write my own book That’s my Australian dream. There are books of princesses and goblins And characters I can’t play I'm determined to solve all the problems And create a costume that’s not cliche Hijabi Girl I like Aussie Rules Footy Hijabi Girl I won’t wear a red hoody Hijabi Girl I’ll write my own scene That’s my Australian dream! That’s my Australian dream! That’s my Australian dream! That’s my Australian dream!
